Confiscation Threats for Lands in Beit Safafa

Samar Salman is faced with a threat to lose its lands in Beit Safafa, the Occupied City of Jerusalem. The plot is 1 dunum in area and holds 5 olive trees within. She said: ‘I inherited the land from my father who bought it over 120 years ago; I even have the Purchase contract. In 1993, the plot was confiscated by the Israeli Occupation Authorities but I objected to the confiscation. They ordered me to proof my ownership of the land and told me whoever proves ownership must use the plot. I handed the purchase contract as a proof of ownership, however, the so-called Guardian of the Absentees Properties rejected it saying that it is not enough.I think sought some legal aid but a lawyer demanded around 500,000 ILS in fees and other expenses which is a huge amount! On October 20, 2012, I was informed informally that a company with the name Pisgut rented the land for 25 years but I have not received any formal letters yet.

Samar is waiting anxiously to know the fate of her land fearing that a day might come when she cannot access it.
