The Israeli Occupation notifies a big part of vegetable central market of demolition and other structures of stop-work in the Nablus town of Beita

The Israeli Occupation notifies a big part of vegetable central market of demolition and other structures of stop-work in the Nablus town of Beita

  • Violation: threatening 33 commercial and agricultural structures
  • Location:  Beit town- Nablus
  • Date: February 08, 2016
  • Perpetrators: Planning and Construction Committee- Israel Civil Administration
  • Victims: 18 Palestinian families

Details:

A massive force from Israeli Occupation Forces raided the western side of Beita town, which is adjacent to the bypass road number 60 and delivered "additional opportunity to object demolition" orders on a number of commercial stores and storage units founded in the vegetables central market. Noteworthy, the order gave the affected a deadline of only three days to object to the demolition, taking into account that the affected notified structures were served stop-work orders in 2013 and 2015.

Despite that Beita Municipality objected to the orders through attorney Tawfiq Jabarin, who is designated by The Commission of Wall and Colonization Affairs, the Israeli occupation rejected all the licensing procedures to force people move out and abandon their properties to become future reserve for colonial expansionist plans.

It should be marked that the central market of vegetables provides hundreds of jobs opportunities for Palestinian families and is an economic revenue for the area. Not only, the market serves the agricultural exchange of products in the southern suburbs of Nablus city. Since 2013, the market was targeted by the occupation on the claim of it being located in area classified as "C" according to Oslo Accords, meaning that it is under Israeli control.

Stop-work orders on commercial and residential structures:

In addition to above violations, the Planning and Construction Committee- Israel Civil Administration delivered eight stop-work orders on agricultural and commercial structures founded by the bypass road number 60 on the claim of unlicensed construction within area classified "C" according to Oslo Accords. Note that the notified stores were established nine years ago and are considered source of income for a big number of families.

According to the orders, the affected were given until March 07, 2016 to complete all licensing procedures. This date comes in time with the hearing session of Planning and Construction Committee in the Israeli court of Beit El to consider the status of the notified structures.

It is reported that the affected people provided, through the legal department at Nablus governorate,  all needed documents to obtain building permits from Beit El court. The following table shows information on the threatened structures and owners:

The Israeli occupation authorities imposed complicated measures and procedures for construction licensing and permits, especially in the area classified "C" according to Oslo Accords. As a result, all established structures in such areas get threatened of demolition andor demolished on the usual claim of "unlicensed construction".

The real intent of Israel is to take over area "C" to become a future reserve for colonial expansionist plans and to create a de facto that will be hard to deal with in any future talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

What the occupation does of indigenous displacement blatantly violates International Laws and Fourth Geneva Convention. Land Research Center calls upon all international bodies to interfere to provide immediate protection for Palestinian and save them from forcible displacement.

About Beita:

14 km to the south of Nablus, Beita is founded with a total land area of 17622 dunums, of which 1711 dunums are classified as area "C". Beita's built-up area reaches up to 3693 dunums accommodating 10859 people according to the census of 2015.
