Israeli forces weld shut the doors of an elderly Palestinian woman’s house on Shuhada Street

Violation: sending a woman out of her house and shutting it down

Date: 19/01/2015

Location: Shuhada street/ Hebron governorate

Perpetrators: Israeli occupation army

Victims: citizen Zahira Dandis (80)

Details:

Israeli forces gathered on Shuhada street, surrounding the doorway to the house belonging to Zahira Dandis, an elderly Palestinian woman, and her family. A soldier, wielding a torch and various other equipment, welded shut the doors.

Citizen Dandis to the researcher of  Land Research Center said the following: "  Soldiers broke into my house at 9:00 a.m. when I was doing some households  and told me that I have to vacate the house for they will weld it shut;  altercations took place and one of the soldiers knocked me down to the ground so my nose bled. I was forced out and the welding happened at my sight".

Dandis denied  that the occupation claims of  informing her of the operation four days in advance.

Israeli soldiers claimed that Molotov cocktails had been thrown from the roof of one of the houses into the Israeli Zionist caravans about a week ago, a thing that citizens on Shuhada street denied. It is believed that this story is fabricated to take over the elderly woman house; the street is full of surveillance cameras and that troops of the occupation are always present there in shifts. So no such thing could have taken place.

Dandis's house is of 40m2 in area and is composed of 2 rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. The seal took place without even allowing the citizen to save any of the interior.

After being expelled out of her house, citizen Dandis sought shelter in a warehouse owned by her son on the same street; the warehouse is used as a workshop for woodcrafts. Dandis called upon all human rights organizations to help her get back to her house; residents of the area showed concerns that house closures might become an Israeli trend.

" I am afraid that our houses become graves for our children and us, the occupation might weld them shut while we sleep inside", citizen Mufeed Sharabti said.

It should be mentioned that the Israeli occupation authorities have lately escalated attacks and assaults on resident of Shuhada street;  shops there–closed under military orders since 1994– were also under the attack spot. Such escalation comes for the sake of forcing residents to leave the area,  which could make room for more Jewish colonists in this very quarter.
