Colonists Capture 10 Dunums of Palestinian Lands in Qaryut Village

Violation: Capturing 10 dunums of Palestinian lands.

Location: Al Batsha in QAryut village, Tubas.

Date: October 22, 2012.

Victims: Mohammad Al Bom.

Details:

another Israeli attack intended to obstruct the olive picking season occurred on October 22 when a group of colonists of Adi Ad captured a 10-dunum field by fencing it. The colonists prevented the owner from getting into the lands using various excuses.

The owner, Mohammad al Bom, 45, said that he was surprised to see that the colonists had fenced his lanced and when he tried to jump over the fence the head of the colony security stopped him. He tried to find out the reason of their actions but he received the vague response of security reasons knowing that his field has been deemed inaccessible by the Israeli Occupation Army except in the olive picking season.

It must be noted that this plot has been targeted several times in the past especially during the olive picking seasons and now the owners is being prohibited from even accessing it in an outrageous breach of his rights. This was all done with the help of the Israeli forces which offer the colonists with the legal and security covers.

Qaryut has been facing a brutal attack since the beginning of the current olive picking season as colonists of Adi Ad burned 10 ‘Roman’ olives and cut down 80 others in the same area.

Qaryut:

It is located 20 km to the south east of Nablus city; a 4.5 km road connects the village to Nablus-Jerusalem road, the road has been closed by the Israeli Occupation Authorities since 2000. Its total area is about 8471 dunum, 366 dunums of residential areas. Around 2500 people live in the village.

The Israeli Occupation Authorities expropriated about 5000 dunums for the expansion of the following colonies:

Shilo: established in 1978; its share of Qaryut lands was about 779 dunums and the residential area of the settlement is about 1347.

  • Eli: established in 1984. It is now only 150 meters away from the village residences.

  • Rachel:  established in 1991 in the south eastern part of the village nearby Shilo.

  • In addition to the three major colonies; a number of colonial outpost exist in the area; these outposts bloomed after the beginning of the second Intifada in 2000; these include Heuvil, Adi Ad, and Yeshokdash.
