A Land grab, means confiscating privately owned Palestinian lands under security claims , the occupation authorities in such military orders give a chance to the owners to apply for financial compensation, but the owners usually refuse , and their demands are to get back their properties . such land grabs may also be described as forced renting , in case the owners accepted or refused , they will use the land , and they offer a sum of money ,that is usually not accepted by the owners hoping to get back their lands.
Such lands are usually used for Colonization plans , and establishing military facilities , bypass roads , or the apartheid wall to serves their colonial scheme in the west bank.
The Israeli occupation confiscated vast areas of Palestinian lands through their military orders that are extended frequently, and the real owners will no longer be able to use or access them.
According to the military order , the targeted lands are in natural block (3) in Al-Hbaila, Abu Tuwain and Wad Al-Khanzeer sites, and part of them are in natural block (4) , of Al-Hour location. While in Surif , the military order targeted parts of natural block (3) in Deir Musa, Qrainat Ghazal, Khallet Abu Ghnaim and Dhaher Al-Mansara. The grabbed lands are about (234.95 dunums).
Head of Surif municipality , Iyad Hmaidat told LRC the following:
“The targeted lands belong to people from Ghnaimat family , and they are close to a 10 dunums plot , that was recently grabbed by an illegal settler from “Beit Ayin” who claimed that he owns the land and fenced it, when the real owners of the land , Palestinians from Ghnaimat family tried to object, he called the Israeli police , that came to the location and told the owners to file a “complaint” to the nearest Israeli station against the intruder.”
Land Research Center sees that grabbing and confiscating Palestinian lands is a flagrant violation of all international conventions and agreements that are related to natural resources:
Article 1 of the International convent on Civil and Political rights: part 2. All peoples may, for their own ends, freely dispose of their natural wealth and resources without prejudice to any obligations arising out of international economic co-operation, based upon the principle of mutual benefit, and international law. In no case may a people be deprived of its own means of subsistence.
Article 17, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- (1) Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.
- (2) No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.
