The dozers of the Israeli occupation municipality demolished on August 19, 2016 a stable for horses in Al-Mukabir neighborhood of Al-Sal'a on the claim of "unlicensed construction".
The owner of the stable, Mohammad Obydat, told Land Research Center the following:
" I built this structure in May with a total cost of 80,000 NIS on an area of 60m2 to be home for my four member family. After moving in to the structure, employees from the occupation's municipality arrived at the location and hanged a demolition order on the structure. I then turned the structure into a stable for horses . I demolished some of the walls to become suitable to accommodate horses. On August 19, 2016 a force from the occupation's police and army troops arrived to the structure's location and brought it down. The force also demolished a 35meters of retaining walls that surrounded the structure"
It should be marked that the occupation harasses Jerusalemites to push them leave the city through humiliating and violating means. Such means came with feeble claims and justifications that can never be believed or even considered true. Issuing demolition order is not limited to Israel Municipality but can be done by Israel Nature Authority, Ministry of Interior, Civil Administration or even by colonial organizations such like Atert Cohanim. This shows the proxy given to such organizations to determine the future of Occupied Jerusalem.
Land Research Center LRC sees that demolitions contradict with all of the International conventions and Humanitarian laws including:
- Article 17 of the (1948) Universal Declaration of Human Rights stating: “Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.”
- Section ‹G› of article 23 of the (1907) The Hague Conventions asserting: “In addition to the prohibitions provided by special Conventions, it is especially forbidden to destroy or seize the enemy's property, unless such destruction or seizure be imperatively demanded by the necessities of war.”
- Article 53 of the Geneva Fourth Convention (1948) declaring: “Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons, or to the State, or to other public authorities, or to social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations.”
What Israel does of demolitions in east Jerusalem and West Bank is a clear-cut violation of human rights and all of the international laws and covenants. Israel only aims at displacing Palestinians for sake of serving the colonial expansion plans.
