The Issuing of 12 Stop Work Orders against 12 Palestinian Structures in Far’un Village

October 9, 2010
in Military Orders
Violation: Issuing Stop Work Orders against the village’s stadium and a number of residential and commercial structures.
Violated: 9 residents of the village of Far’un
Date: October 5th, 2010.

Details:
On the morning of Tuesday October 5th, 2010, the village of Far’un was raided by a large force of Israeli occupation forces that accompanied representatives by the so-called Israeli “Civil” Administration. During the raid, the representatives of the “Civil” Administration distributed 9 Stop Work Orders against residential, agricultural and commercial structures in addition to the village’s stadium. The pretext used to issue the said orders was building without a permit in the southwestern side of the village which is classified as Area C.

Occupation forces gave the owners of the structures until the 21st of October, 2010, to file for an objection against the Orders. On the same day, a court session will be held in Beit El in Ramallah to look into the status of the targeted structures. All told, the village of Far’un has been issued so far 24 Stop Work Orders against structures centered specifically on the western side of the village.

It has to be noted that the process of applying for a permit in Area C is a cumbersome task that includes taking photographs of the four sides of the structure, bringing its ownership deed as well as the land’s in addition to paying all of the taxes levied against the structures throughout the years. However, providing all of these documents does not necessarily mean that the building permit is close at hand. On the contrary, the majority, if not all, of the permit requests submitted to the occupation’s Beit El court usually ends in failure as a part of a systemized effort to humiliate Palestinians and preventing them from exercising their most basic rights. The following table provides additional information vis-à-vis the targeted structures:

Far’un: misery caused by occupation
The village of Far’un is located in the southern section of Tulkarem District at a distance of 3 kilometers away from the city of Tulkarem. It is considered one of the prime examples of the viciousness of the Israeli occupation; The Israeli Racist Isolation Wall has devoured 50% of the lands of the village and transformed the lives of its 3,500 residents into a nightmare as it deprived more than 400 farmers from reaching their lands. The unemployment rate in the village currently stands at 69% most of them are land owners whose lands became isolated behind the Racist Wall. These lands are planted with olive trees as well as with almond and citrus trees. The lands also have a number of Green Houses as well as grazing areas. Its isolation behind the Wall has deprived the farmers from their main source of income and transformed them into unemployment.
