Description:
In the early morning hours of Thursday 15 August 2019, a group of fanatic settlers raided the northern neighborhood of Az-Zawiya known as “Mayyoun” neighborhood adjacent to bypass 505 that links Ariel settlement to the occupied territories of 1948.
The fanatic settlers took advantage of the night calmness to slash the tires of 9 cars , and write hatred inciting slogans on the walls of one of the houses before withdrawing.

Scenes from the attack in Az-Zawiya
Mr Mahmoud Moqadi Az-Zawiya village council head told LRC reporter:
“This attacks aims to terrorize people of the village in a state of absence of security. Settlers are not alone in targeting the village, but the Israeli occupation forces carried out an attack against several farmers in the village, especially those who own plots adjacent to “Elkana” settlement and the bypass road , in order to make them struggle and impose realities on the ground .”
The price tag gang is a terrorist group related to the Zionist right wing parties that carry out organized attacks in west bank , Jerusalem and the occupied territories of 1948 under the protection of the occupation army , their attacks are mostly slashing car tires, throwing stones and writing hatred inciting slogans. Such attacks are motivated by a racist terrorist mentality . Their most popular slogan is “A good Arab is a Dead Arab” , which reflects their radical mentalities, the price tag group is formed of students of seminaries aged between 18-23 . The price tag gang appeared in 2008 and immerged from Kach movement.

Located 17 kilometer west of Salfit and adjacent to the Green Line, Az Zawiya has a population of 5230 people according to statistics conducted in 2017. 81% of the population depend on agriculture and sheep grazing while the rest work in governmental jobs or private sector projects. Az Zawiya has a total area of 12,000 dunums, 693 of which are a built-up area of the town. Most agricultural lands in Az Zawiya are planted with olive, figs, and cactus.The Israeli occupation confiscated 1747 dunums of Az Zawiya lands for colonies and the Apartheid Wall as the following:
- Two colonies are built on Az Zawiya lands. The first is Mazor Atiqa which was built in 1986 and confiscated 573 dunums. The other is Elkana which was built in 1977 and confiscated 57 dunums. Elkana is inhabited by 3050 colonists.
- Bypass road number 5 and it devoured 520 dunums of Az Zawiya lands
- The Apartheid Wall which destroyed 579 and isolated 4228 dunums
