Violation: pumping sewage water

Date: 29/11/2013

Location: Kfar Qadum/ Qalqiliya

Perpetrators: the army of the Israeli occupation

Details:

The troops of the occupation pumped high-pressure sewage water to disperse a peaceful march in the village of Kfar Qadum. It should be marked that 9 Palestinian residences were affected by that act of vandalism, which contradicts humanity as a whole.

A victim of this act Yassin(36) to the LRC researcher said the following: "Around noon of Friday, residents were getting ready to pray when a occupation force accompanied by two tanks for sewage water marched towards the village from the south. Soldiers pumped sewage water on residences and fences where some of that water reached inside of the house leaving a stinky odor that lasts for days. Pollution and health hazards occurred as a result".

It should be marked that this is not the first the occupation attacks the residents by this means. On contrary, such an act has happened frequently and repeatedly in Kfar Qadum. It should be also mentioned that the residents of the village have been organizing marches each Friday, heading towards the southern entrance of the village that has been shut down since 2002. The occupation enforced closure on that entrance and used the nearby area for the favor of for the expansion of Kedumim colony.

The closure has come under the pretext of maintaining the security of Kedumim colony that is located on 6500 dunums from Kfar Qadum. The shut down was forced within a systematic plan starting from banning outsiders from passing, letting only the residents of the area pass on feet and then closing the whole entrance. This contradicts with all international conventions especially Geneva convention, which stated the following:

Article 56 :"The property of municipalities, that of institutions dedicated to religion, charity and education, the arts and sciences, even when State property, shall be treated as private property. All seizure of, destruction or wilful damage done to institutions of this character, historic monuments, works of arts and science, is forbidden and should be made the subject of legal proceedings."

About Kfar Qadum village:

It is located 25km east of Qalqiliya city and is of 20,000 dunums in area of which 1,382 dunums are built-up area. More detailed, 2500 dunums of the village are considered pastoral and around 5000 dunums are subjected to colonial interest especially the colony of Kedumim. The percentage of the agricultural lands in the area is 85% of arable land planted with olives.

About Kedumim:

The colony of Kedumim is located on the once-was Jordanian military camp in the southwestern part of the village. It was established in 1975 with a total land area of 1090 dunums and a population of 3290 colonists.

It should be mentioned that the authorities of the occupation put hands on the nearby hills to establish in 1982 the outpost of Kedumim 'Ailet on 533 confiscated dunums. The outpost is inhabited by around 300 colonists.

It should be also marked that by the beginning of 1990, Kedumim colonists looted a vast area of lands from Kfar Qadum to establish the colony of Gilad Zohar. This colony totals around 753 dunums in area and populates 1053 colonists.
