Violation: demolition of 9 agricultural and residential structures in Jiftlik.

Location: Abu Ajaj and Al Khirba to the north east of Jiftlik, Jericho.

Date: January 24, 2013.

Victims: 4 Bedouin families, a total of 32 people including 13 children.

 

Details:

 

Jiftlik has been hit with a new wave of Israeli demolitions targeting the Palestinians very existence in the Jordan Valley area. On January 24, 2013, Israeli troops accompanied by 2 dozers broke into the village before embarking on a demolition campaign that hit 9 residential and agricultural structures. The demolitions were justified by ‘unlicensed construction’ in area classified ‘C’ according to Oslo. It is worthy to mention that the owners were not given the chance to clear the contents of the targeting structures which drastically amplified the losses.

The owners received stop-work orders for the demolished structures on August 27, 2012. ‘we are determined on staying in our lands no matter what the price will be’. With these simple words Ayman Id’es, 59, began his statement that he made to an LRC observer, he continued: ‘Jiftlik has been an Israeli target for a while, in February 2012, his residence was demolished and his family became homeless; 6 months later I received another order and my house was demolished just recently’.

 

 Jiftlik:

 

Jiftlik is located in the heart of the Jordan Valley; its total area is 185032 dunums, all of it classified ‘C’ according to Oslo Accords. The village is unrecognized by the Israelis rendering most of its structures threatened with demolitions. While 70 % of its lands have already been confiscated. The village is inhabited by 3546 people.
