Violation: the Israeli Occupation Authorities stops the opening of a new road.

Location: Jinsafut – Qalqiliyya.

Date: October 15, 2012.

Details:

On October 15, 2012, the Israeli Occupation Army stopped the opening of a new agricultural road connecting Jinsafut with Wadi Khaled, an agricultural area to the south east of the village.

The road is 1-km-long and was implemented through the ‘Improving Livelihood in the Occupied Palestinian Territories Program’ implemented by the UAWC. The Israelis claimed that the designated area is a ‘natural reserve’ and threatened the farmers of penalties and confiscation of machines if they do not comply.

Jinsafut:

It is located 15 kilometers south east of the city of Qalqilia. Its total area is 8,659 dunums including the 218 dunums build-up area. Its population is estimated to be 2,500 with an unemployment rate reaching up to 78 %. The village is a victim of Israeli colonies as more than 688 dunums were confiscated for the purpose of establishing and expanding the colonies of Neve Oraniem (538 dunums) and KarniShamron (150 dunums).

The Israeli demolition policy rendered many couples thinking about migration and seeking refuge in the nearby villages or town; this also applies to a number of small businesses. As a result, the unemployment rates in the village have increased rapidly in the past few years. The Israeli colonization activities had drastic effects on the village lands and causing a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe.
