Violation: demolishing 5 cisterns and a water pool.

Details:
On October 23, 2012, the Israeli Occupation Army embarked on the demolition of five water cistern and a water pool in Kafr Dan. A large Israeli force, accompanied by officer of the so-called Water Company, set a perimeter around the targeted area before embarking on the demolition.
The attack took place in an area classified ‘B’ according to Oslo Accords. The demolition was coupled with the destruction of some fields and the detention of a number of farmers who tried to stop the attack. The so-called Israeli Water company informed the Palestinian Coordination Office of its intention to demolish 12 water cisterns in Kafr Dan because of random and illegal construction.

Kafr Dan is known for its plain fields which are an extension of ‘Marj Ibn Amer’; these fields cover an estimated area of 700 dunums. The availability of water helped agriculture to flourish in the village which holds over 80 cisterns. However, the Israeli Occupation Authorities rejects granting licenses to those cisterns except 5 which were built before the Israeli Occupation in 1967.

Kafr Dan:
The village of Kufr Dan is located 5 kilometers northwest of the City of Jenin. Its area is 7,328 dunums, however only 300 dunums are classified within its Master Plan. The village is surrounded by a number of other villages including Burqin (from the south), Al Yamoun (from the west) in addition to the city of Jenin (from the north). Around 4,000 dunums are used for agricultural purposes in an area known as Marj Ibn Amer where most of the irrigated crops are present. Hundreds of Green Houses spread throughout the Wadi while others parts of it are planted with fig, almond and olives. As to sustain such a large scale agricultural activity, landowners dug up tens of Artesian wells to use the underground water. The population of the village is 5312 according to the PCBS’s census of 2008.
