Over the years, Israeli colonists have attempted to put facts onto the ground by capturing lands and use it as it was their property. The targeted lands are barren due to the fact that the Israeli Occupation Army have declared it a closed military zone, inaccessible by Palestinians, for years. They say that the closure is necessary for the security of Itmar colony and allow the Palestinians to only pass through the lands in certain days of the year.

Yousuf Deriyya, an activist, said: ‘the attack took place by the start of the olive-picking season; it is meant to hit the season which Palestinian farmers eagerly wait for every year. Every year, the colonists capture huge areas of Palestinian lands to serve their political agenda; all of it is done under the protection and supervision of the Israeli State which provides the colonists with unlimited support and resources while depriving Palestinians from even accessing their lands. The real danges is not the confiscation of 12 dunums but the fact that around hundred others will be inaccessible and might be amended to Itmar colony knowing that the lands are filled with olive trees.

Yanun is 15 km to the east of Nablus city. There isn’t any road network that connects the village to the city except the old road which was renovated only lately. The street leads to ‘Aqraba village. The village borders extend to reach ‘Aqraba, Beit Furik, and ‘Awarta villages. To the east there is Makhola colony and by-pass Road 90. The total area of the village is 16,450 dunums including 1,668 dunums built up area.

According to Palestinian official sources, there are 108 people living in the village, most of them belong to Bani Jaber and Marar clans.  Some of the residents are refugees originally from the occupied village of ‘Ajur which was occupied and destroyed back in 1948. Itmar colony has been expanding on the village lands as it took over more than 503 dunums from the village till now.

It must be noted that Yanoun has been a target of numerous aggressions, for more information please refer to the following reports:
