Israeli Colonists Set 3 Cars Alight

Israeli Colonists Set 3 Cars Alight

Violation: setting 3 cars alight.

Date: August 28, 2012.

Location: Sair – Hebron.

Perpetrators: Israeli colonists.

Victims: members of Al Froukh family.

Details:

On August 28, 2012, a group of Israeli colonists broke into Sair town and torched 3 Palestinian cars.  Zain al Froukh, one of the victims, said that Israeli troops provided the colonists with help and protection during the attack; he stated: ‘at around 2:00 am, Israeli troops and colonists surrounded my cousin’s residence and started knocking on the doors. However, he did not open the door for them out of fear that they might hurt his family. When we heard the sounds we looked out of the windows to see what was happening to suddenly see flames erupting from my cousin’s car. I cried for help and when I went out to try to put the fire down I saw my uncle’s Hyundai on fire then I saw my Mitsubishi on fire! We and the neighbors rushed to put down the fire when two colonists cars passed by us going towards my cousin’s residence where the other colonists were gathering. The colonists then shot a couple of rounds before fleeing.

He pointed that people saw slogans written on his house walls calling for avenging a colonist who died in a car accident nearby the area.

He said that the attack was well organized as surrounding his cousin’s residence was only a diversion to allow the other colonists to torch the cars. He also said that the colonists cut the water supply to make it harder to put down the fire. He remembered the threats that were made by colonists a year earlier, when the colonist died in the car accidents; that day the colonists cheered using speakers saying ‘they will burn the whole area to the ground’.

Targeted cars:

  • Zain al Froukh, a 1997 Mitsubishi L200; the tires, engine, windshield, and parts of the cabin was torched.

The locals are afraid of more attacks in the coming days knowing that the Israeli soldiers and colonists cooperation means that there is no way to stop them.
