Violations: expansions in Avigal.
Date: June 4 and 5, 2012.
Perpetrators: colonists of Avigal.
Victims: Palestinians of Yatta town.
Details:
Colonists of Avigal, a colony standing over Um al Shaqhan lands in Yatta, embarked on leveling lands to the east of the colony. Eyewitnesses said that they have seen a dozer and a jackhammer operating for two nights on June 4 and 5, 2012. They said that work stopped after some activists interfered; it has stopped till the day this report was written.
The leveled lands are property of Palestinians of Mohammad and al Jabareen families; they are characterized as mountainous lands. The colonists opened a 200-meter unpaved road and an open space at the end of it. The Palestinians heard rumors of the colonists’ plans to open a road and add 12 mobile homes, 6 on each side of the road. It must be noted that 7 mobile homes have already been added to the colony during this year.
Avigal:
It was built by colonists of Havat Ma’on in 2001. It was established over lands of Yatta, located 2.5 km to the south of Havat Ma’on. By the end of 2009, the colony had 13 structures and a water tank.
