Destroying water wells and equipment in An Nassariya village

Destroying water wells and equipment in An Nassariya village
Violation: destroying water wells and pumping equipment.
Location: An Nassariya, mid Jordan Valley.
Date: July 12, 2011.
Perpetrators: the Israeli Occupation Army.
Victims: a number of An Nassariya’s villagers.

Details:
The village provides a living example of the misery many Palestinian villages and villagers. It is located over the eastern aquifer; its spring used to feed the Jordan River current. However, the Israeli capture of the water sources added to the misery of the Palestinians. It is apparent that the Israelis have been water-greedy since the conquest of the West Bank in 1967. An Nassariya was left water-less as a result.

On July 12, 2011, the Israeli Occupation Army destroyed 3 water wells used to supply around 1800 dunums of lands with water; lands that form a source of income for many people.

The village was known for the availability of surface water and springs; however, the Israeli theft of water and pumping of ground water to tanks in nearby colonies and twons rendered the village’s springs almost dry.

In addition, the Israelis prohibit any search for water or any digging of wells in An Nassariya and the surrounding villages except in 9 which received permits by the Israelis in 1967, not another well did so again. This has been having drastic effects on the people’s lives since most of tha families depend on agriculture in their living. Around 1750 dunums of fields, planted to with vegetables, were damaged due to the Israeli demolitions; thus, affecting the income of 76 families.
