The Demolition of Umm Nir for the Second Time

The Demolition of Umm Nir for the Second Time
Violation: The demolition of Khirbet Umm Nir for the second time.
Date: March 29th, 2011.
Location: Umm Nir – South of the city of Yatta.

Details:
Israeli occupation forces demolished for the second time Khirbet Umm Nir, located south of the city of Yatta in Hebron Governorate. The residents of the Khirbet indicated for the Land Research Center (LRC)’s field researcher that Israeli soldiers and Police raided the Khirbet at 5:00 AM on March 29th, 2011, and destroyed all of the shelters in the Khirbet without any prior warning. Occupation forces used bulldozers to demolish the tents despite the fact that these tents were donated by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the aftermath of the initial demolition of the Khirbet on February 22nd, 2011.

The residents of Umm Nir pointed out that Israeli soldiers physically attacked them when they tried to prevent them from destroying their shelters which led to the injury of the following:
1.     Mahmoud Ahmad Al Jboor (64 years old) – injury to the head and back
2.     I’etidal Hussein al Jboor (64 years old) – multiple concussions.
3.     Issa Hussein Al Jboor (70 years old) – multiple concussions.
4.     Hajja Hamda Al Jboor (70 years old) – – injury to the chest and legs.
5.     Hajja Zareefa Al Jboor (60 years old) – shoulder injury leading to loss of conciseness.
6.     Taleb Mohammad Al Jboor (62 years old) – Injury to the shoulder and back.
7.     Jibreel Mahmoud Al Jboor (25 years old) – broken chest and an injury to the shoulder.
Moreover, occupation forces have threatened to confiscate all of the herds present on the location which led its owners to move it away from the destruction place. nIn retrospect, the Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salam Fayyad, visited the site of demolition on Palestinian Land Day and provided the needed assistance (in the form of bricks, cement and zinco) as to allow the re-establishment of the community once again.

Until the intended 6 rooms are constructed, the Palestinians of Umm Nir will continue to spend their nights and days beneath the skies and between the caves after Israeli occupation forces bulldozed their only shelters. In contrast, work is still on-going in the establishment of a “religious park” in the historical Susiya site fort Israeli colonists.

Yet, despite of all the attempts of the Israeli occupation, the residents of Umm Nir still insist on staying put on their lands in defiance of the Israeli occupation that aims at forcing them out of their land.
