Under security claims  , The occupation demolished ‘Assem Al-Barghuthi house in Kubar village / Ramallah governorate

Description:

In the early morning hours of Thursday, March 7^th 2019, The Israeli occupation forces accompanied by an Israeli military bulldozer raided Kubar village , northwest Ramallah, and surrounded the family house of ‘Assem Al-Barghuthi, and completely destroyed it , then withdrew about 4:00 am.

Al-Barghuthi house lies in the western area of Kubar village, and consists of one floor with an area of 180 m², the  house is built  on a plot with a total area of 500 m² and surrounded by a fence, ‘Assem used to live in the house with his wife.

The Israeli occupation west bank army commander issued a demolition military order on ’Assem Al-Barghuthi  (33) house in January 20,2019 , under security claims, the family filed a petition to the Israeli supreme court to avoid the demolition , and in early march this year the Israeli government refused the petition and decided to demolish the house in 48 hours after the final demolition order.

Noteworthy, the occupation accuses ‘Assem Al-Barghuthi and his brother Saleh Al-Barghuthi of opening fire close to “Ofra” settlement in December 9^th 2018.

Since Al-Quds uprising of 2015 until the date of this report, Israeli Occupation Forces demolished 68 residences, of which 14 were demolished in 2018. Demolitions were carried out as a collective punishment on the families of those accused of resisting the Israeli occupation.

It should be marked that the order was issued in reference to the British Emergency Law for the year 1945, taking into consideration that this law was abolished. “Confiscation and demolition” according to article 119 of the law indicates that it is not allowed to re-construct in the demolition location. The policy of home demolition has a very negative impact on the psychology of kids and women. Witnessing the destruction of one’s residence is unbearable and traumatizing. Such acts undermine human values and rights.
