Israeli army’s terror and Sabotage actions in Al Yamun town, Jenin District

Location, population & area

The town of Al Yamun is located 9 km to the west of Jenin city. Its population is estimated at 16000 inhabitants. The total area of Al Yamun is about 20000 dunum, including 1300 dunum as built up area. The population is formed mainly of a number of families such as Frihat, Khamaysa, Samudi, Hushiya, Abu Al Hija, Samara 'Abahra, Zaid, Jaradat and Nawhda. See location map

The town of Al Yamun is surrounded by Silat Al Harthiya and Anin from west; Kafr Dan from east; the green line from north; Al 'Araqa and Hashimiya from south (See map).

Type of violation

On June 27 and 28, the Israeli army stormed the town of Al Yamun, Hushiya quarter, inflicting heavy damage to Palestinian properties, such as homes, furniture, cisterns ..etc. The total number of damaged cisterns is 29, in addition to one water tank and one reservoir.

The following is a list of the names of affected people and properties according to the Municipality of Al Yamun. It is worth mentioning here that the Israeli army invasion was centered on the quarter of Hushiya located at the centre of the town:

LRC visit to the town

During LRC field worker's visit to Al Yamun, he met one of the victims, Mr. Farid Abdallah Hushiya, 50 years old, a graduate of Alexandria university, and resident of Hushiya quarter where the violation took place. He said the following:

' At 3: AM, June 27th, 2004, we were awakened by sounds of loud speakers enforcing curfew on the town. The sounds of loud speakers were accompanied by bullet fire, sound bombs, tear gas bombs, screaming and shouting. In the midst of these actions, my house was stormed by dozens of soldiers and police dogs who were smashing windows, furniture and bed rooms. All the house occupants were detained in one room for the period of four hours during which no one was allowed to use the toilet, eat or drink or make phone calls. The house was thoroughly searched and furniture destroyed in a savage way. Most of the houses in the area became under similar sabotage and terror acts under the pretext of security threats. A state of terror and fear prevailed among children and women throughout the search processes, especially, after seeing dogs moving around in the house. Even, religious, social and school books and magazines were destroyed. Food and medicine was cut off from the attacked area for the period of two days'.
