It is not something new that Israel manipulates, violates and contempt the international law and the international community well at large. It is simple, it started in 1948, in 1967 and continued since then building settlements, political assassinations, turning the lives of people upside down, demolishing their properties, confiscating their land, etc. The list goes on and on, so what made thing go to this distant the world ask, will it is simple. When 1.5 million Palestinians living under occupation for more than 40 years, has no way in or out, with barely enough food, medicine, and barley of essential life elements to live by, then the answer simply present itself. Now for those who are unaware, since 1967, Israel confined the Palestinians of Gaza to the 362 Km square; however, it was not all of the Palestinians. The Israeli settlers went there to “share” it, under the persuasive abilities of the mighty Israeli Army who paved the way for the settlers, in spite of the fact that the Israeli existence stands in violation of the international law and article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention (section III, Occupied Territories states:
The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies. — Article 49, Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, (12 August 1949). |
Israel’s war against the people and infrastructure of Gaza
Since Israel unleashed its war machine against the people of Gaza on December 27 2008, it started bombarding, shelling and recklessly killing the Palestinians of Gaza, children, and women were the target of their F-16 air strikes, as they intentionally strike civilian facilities and residential buildings. The Israeli Army killed hundreds of Palestinians, the number come up within the first 10 days into 2009 to almost 900 Palestinians, half of who are children and women. Causalities are approaching 4000, at least one-third of them are likely to die with no proper, or minimum treatment is available. shortages of medicine, equipment , and medical personnel is the least to say when Israel is only allowing minimum supply to get through to Gaza; even though food supplies, medical supplies and personnel are waiting at the Gaza boarders to go in to help salvage and relief the people of Gaza.
The Israeli F-16 airstrikes, sea attacks and ground attacks targets civilian and public properties all of which stand in violation of article 53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.
Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons, or to the State, or to other public authorities, or to social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operation.
— Article 49, Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, (12 August 1949). |
Israel’s attempt to legalize their war on the people of Gaza
It is without doubt that Israel’s war on the people of Gaza is a war crime. The excessive use of force, and internationally prohibited bombs (phosphoric) among others is one thing but the international salience and in some cases approving perception of the Israeli attacks is an indicator of degrading stance in which the Palestinian are perceived.. Therefore, what will it take to consider Palestinians human beings, and worthy of living free. It is the right of the Palestinian to aspire for their freedom and independency. Israel was and still is an occupation state. Let us repeat that “Israel is an occupation state” and the bottom line is that the international law and international body has lost its credibility in every possible way. The values of respect for human dignity, liberty, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights were never part of Israel charter as a state. They can right it down all they want but their action says otherwise.
