Details:
On May 24, 2012, the Israeli Organization and Construction Committee handed two families of Wadi Fukin stop-work orders for their under-construction residences on the pretext of unlicensed construction. The structures are property of:
Makram ‘Assaf: a foundation for an 80-m2-residence. Work started two weeks earlier. Makram said: ‘this is my ancestors’ lands and I have all the right to build whenever I want‘.

Atef ‘Assaf: the family has started the construction of the 80-m2-residence and amended another 20-m2-room to it. The residence is inhabited by a 7-member-family including one child. The estimated costs so far are around 60,000 ILS. Atef said: ‘we will remain, we will build the house and no one can make us leave‘.

It must be noted that the area has been targeted much recently as Ayed Manasra received a demolition order for his 400-m2 barn which is used to raise cows on April 21, 2012; a structure with an estimated value of 80,000 ILS.
Wad Fukin Location:
It is located 13 km to the south west of Bethlehem. It edges the armistice line of 1948. It is also edged by a number of Palestinian villages, Al Kabu (north), a village that was evicted in 1948 and replaced by Bitar Ilit colony, Nahhalin (east), Husan (north east), Al Jab’a (south).
Area and population:
Wadi Fukin is a small Palestinian village inhabited by only 1198 people. Its total area is 12,000 dunums, owned by its current populates or the refugees who fled after the Israeli conquest in 1948. The Israelis captured 8,300 dunums in 1948 and 700 dunums for the expansion of Bitar Ilit. Now, the built-up area in the village is less than 250 dunums.
