Violation: demolishing 4 residences and 5 animal barns
Date: 21/08/2013
Perpetrators: The Israeli occupation army
Victims: 19 people including 7 children
Location: Hamsa- Tubas
Details:
On 21/08/2013, Hamza witnessed a new wave of attacks which threatened its people and their rights to residence and existence. Abed Awda, 71 years old, is a resident of Hamza. Despite his old age and the difficulty of movement, he insisted on standing in front of his house that is made by wood and sackcloth. Awda told an LRC observer that: "During the past 10 years, the Israeli occupation army demolished my house 3 times without any justification although I have all the legal documents needed to prove my ownership of the land where I married and raised my children."
Awda affirmed that he applied to the Israeli occupation authorities in order to have a permit. He was informed such simple structures do not need a permit and do not pose any threat to the army. Yet, these structures are attacked and their residents are harassed only so that the Israeli army could have control over our land."
The Israeli occupation also demolished two rooms made of clay which were built before 1967 in Hamsa. That indicates that even the structures that were erected before the arrival of the Israeli occupation are also targeted for the aim of uprooting people from their land.
