It should be marked that the policy of setting up checkpoints and military gates at entrances of Palestinian villages and cities is Israel's preferred means of collective punishment against Palestinians. It is conducted to harass Palestinians and take their determination down.
It is reported that Israeli Occupation Forces set up around 87 checkpoints and movements restrictions all over the West Bank ( Field Research Info-Land Research Center).
On February 01, 2016, Israeli Occupation Forces set up a military checkpoint (two metal gates) West Nablus city; more specifically on the road linking the city of Qalqiliya to Nablus. The location is one km to Surra village.

The new checkpoint is believed to restrict the movement Palestinians in the area, given that the road is a connecting point between a number of villages and cities of the nearby. This will eventually affect the economic sector and the medical and humanitarian status of the area as well.
Noteworthy, Hebron first then Nablus second suffered from the policy of Israeli checkpoints and closures, which divided lands and hindered any developmental and demographic expansion.
It should be marked that the Israeli Occupation Forces closed 70 entrances and roads in and leading to Hebron city. Nablus city got 34 closures distributed randomly on villages.
International conventions and laws regarding freedom of movement which Israel unabatedly violates:
- Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person”.
- Article 5: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment”.
- Article 9: “No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile”.
- Article 13: Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.
- Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: “No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In particular, no one shall be subjected without his free consent to medical or scientific experimentation.”
- Article 9: “Everyone has the right to liberty and security of person. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention. No one shall be deprived of his liberty except on such grounds and in accordance with such procedure as are established by law.
