Picture 9-11: damage
Since October, 2012, the Israeli Occupation Army declared huge areas as closed military zones. Agricultural fields were destroyed but also a large number of ruminants were confiscated for being in a ‘closed military zone’.
On January 7, 2013, the Israeli Occupation Army 23 goats property of Raed S’ifan (14) and Rahil Ka’abna (9). Rahil commented: ‘the Israeli Occupation Army has been detaining the goats till today and refuse to release then unless we pay the 2000 ILS penalty imposed on us‘.
Usually, goats are detained for a while before the owner is forced to pay a penalty.
Mohammad al Mallah, legal advisor in Tubas Governorate, said: ‘the Israeli Occupation Authorities do not intend to confiscate goats only but they also tend to exhaust the Palestinians economically and pressure them to leave. Many of these goats die while detained‘. He said that the owners are forced to pay huge amounts of money to release the goats (50 to 100 $ per head and 40 $ per day in detention).
Many communities were turned into shooting grounds such as Mayta, which forced the locals to flee. The Israelis banned international activists and the press from accessing the area to keep the world in the dark on what is happening.
