Violation: issuing stop-work orders against a number of residential and agricultural structures in Barta’a.
Location: Barta’a ash Sharqiya – Jenin Governorate.
Date: February 10 and 18, 2010.
Violators: the ‘Construction and Organization Committee’ in the Israeli Occupation Civil Administration.
Victims: families from Barta’a.
Details:
The so-called Construction and Organization Committee in the Israeli Occupation Civil Administration handed 14 Palestinians ‘stop-work orders’ against 18 residential and agricultural structures. The justification for such an act was the usual ‘no-permits’ for structures located in areas classified ‘C’ according to Oslo Agreement.
The notifications were distributed as follows:
On February 10, 2010, 9 Palestinians were handed 13 stop-work orders. The Construction and Organization Committee called for a hearing session in Beit El military court on March 18, 2010. The purpose of the hearing session is giving the chance to object to the orders knowing that the Israeli Occupation Authorities never issue construction permits for Palestinians living in areas classified ‘C’.

It must be pointed that the Israeli Occupation policy is part of the ‘land cleansing’ plan with apparent intentions of emptying the lands from its Palestinian residents. More than 190 stop-work or demolition orders have been issued against structures in Barta’a. Moreover, 19 structures have already been demolished. The Israelis justify such orders by saying that the structures are located in areas classified ‘C’ while the unveiled intention of cleansing the lands on their minds.
Barta’a ash Sharqiya:
Barta’a is located 30 km away to the west of Jenin City. The nearest town is Ya’bad which is located 11 km to the east. It is surrounded by three Palestinian ruins, Khirbit Barta’a, Khirbit Abdullah al Younis (east), and Khirbit al Mintar (south). The segregation wall surrounds the village from the eastern and southern sides and separates the village from its Palestinian surrounding.
The total area of the village is around 21000 dunums (1 dunum = 1000 m2). However, according to the Israeli Occupation Authorities, they reduced the area to less than 3500 dunums according to the organizational maps published on May, 2005. According to the Village Council, 3900 people are the inhabitants of Brta’a, all of them are Qabaha’s.
