Location and population:
The village of Salim is located 7 km to the east of Nablus city. Its population is estimated at 4000 inhabitants mostly work in agriculture.
Type of violation:
One: The erection of one caravan.
Two: The establishment of a military post
Exact name of location: Al- Ishara and Nagmit Salim.
Date of violation:
Settlers from the settlement of Illon Moreh set- up the caravan on August 20th, 2001 on land belonging to the heirs of Mr. Mifleh Issa. The settlement of Illon Moreh was established in 1980 on land owned by Palestinians from the villages of Deir Al- Hatab and Azmut.
A glimpse on the colonialist core in Al- Ishara site:
It started in 1999 by the erection of one caravan, an electric generator and a water tank 3 km to the east of Illon Moreh and 3.5 to the east of Salim village. In the year 2000, a 400 m2 sheep shed was erected along with another caravan. Last August, a third caravan was added to the site and a 3 km long road was built to link between the site and Illon Moreh.
The new military post:
It was established on August 19th, 2001, in a place called Nagmit Salim. 3 dunums of land belonging to Mr. Jamil Awad Allah and the heirs of Mr. Hamid Abdullah were seized to make room for the establishment of the post. 30 olive trees were uprooted during the operation.
Site description:
Najmit Salim is a hill overlooking the villages of Salim, Deir Al- Hatab and Azmut in the north and the village of Beit Dajan in the east and the village of Beit Furik in the south as well as the city of Nablus and its refugee camps in the west. The hill was turned to a fortified military position containing heavy and light armory. Israeli soldiers stationed there prevent Palestinians from tending their nearby land.
A profile of violations against the village of Salim:
- In 1996, a bypass road was opened in the village land causing the destruction of 200 dunums of cultivated land and the uprooting of at least 1000 olive trees. The road was 3 km long and 100 meters wide.
- In 1998, 135 olive trees of old kinds were uprooted. Mr. Yunis Mahmud Hamdan owns the trees.
- In 2000, Palestinian farmers, Hasan Asa'ad Odeh and Ahmad Abdul Jabar Ashteh, were not allowed to pick olives from almost 100 dunums of olive trees they own.
- In 2000, Israeli settlers stole about one ton of olive fruits belonging to farmer Hasan As'ad Odeh.
- On June 10th, 2001, more than 50 olive trees were uprooted. Farmers Mohammed Mahmud, Yunis Hamdan, Ahmad Kamel Ashteh and Ahmad Abdul Jabbar Ashteh own thee trees.
- On September 25th, 2001, more than 25 fruitful trees were uprooted in Al- Birka area. The uprooted trees are owned by As'ad Yusif Hamdan.
