Israeli Occupation Forces torch 103 olive trees in Jenin governorate

On Friday of May 22, 2020, the Israeli Occupation Forces fired stun grenades at an area in Daher Al-Abid village, nearby the apartheid wall, rendering 103 olive trees to burn

About the incident, the head of Daher Al-Abid village council told Land Research Center the following:

“The Occupation Military Forces fired stun grenades at Palestinian workers coming from their jobs in the occupied territories to disperse them, causing fire to spread in the area”

Due to the high temperature and the dryness of hay in the area, the fire spread to damage a total area of 18 dunums. Reportedly, fire was only 100 meters away from. Extinguishing efforts took more than three hours to control the fire, residents of the area said.

Farmer DirarQabha (47 years) told Land Research Center the following:

” The targeted lands are considered our main source of income. We produce olive oil; our trees make around 250 kilograms of it. the occupation is targeting our land and trees to strike our perseverance and resilience”

About Daher Al-Abid:

It is a relatively small village located 26 km to the west of Jenin governorate. It is edged by Akkaba village from the north and the east. The total area of the village is 660 dunums, while only 60 dunums are considered built-up area. All lands of the village are classified as “C” Area according to Oslo Accords.

The village populates 467 inhabitants (2017 census) who mainly depend on agriculture as a main source of income
