Al-Malih village council head Mr. Mahdi Daraghmeh told LRC:
“Palestinian farmers at the Jordan Valley especially in Wad Al-Malih, the occupation has their eyes on the area’s water and land , the occupation also hinders any developmental agricultural project in the area. Recently, the occupation confiscated number of agricultural machineries that operate in agricultural work at the Jordan Valley, among the five tractors in Khirbet Umm Al-Qaba, in addition to other machineries in Ar-Ras Al-Ahmar , Sahel Al-Buqaia’a and Bardala, this came with closures , and imposing restriction on land access in the area.”
Like several other Khirbets, Um Al-Qaba is a fertile agricultural area , but the occupation transformed about 3000 dunums of the area’s lands into closed military zones , it also transformed its fertile fields into military training areas for the occupation forces. Noteworthy 40 % of these lands are private property for farmers, while 60 % belong to the Catholic patriarch.
