Description:

Wednesday, 12th of June 2019 , The Israeli occupation authorities destroyed a siege that surrounds a farmland that belongs to Al-Amal cooperative society.

In the early morning hours , a massive army force accompanied by members from the civil administration and bulldozers raided the area, after the occupation forces encircled the location , workers cut metal corners and barbed wires with electric tools, and destroyed the surrounding siege.

The occupation authorities destroyed the siege that surrounds (3 dunums) planted with Thyme and sages , and provides a sub-side source of income for a family of 41 people.

The farmland was rehabilitated in 2018 as one of the society’s projects, the implementation was carried out by a human rights European institution in collaboration with Union of Agricultural work committees, the project included a water harvesting pool (1600 m3), and fencing a 10 dunums plot, and the society members planted 10 dunums with aromatic plants.

In 28/1/2018 , the occupation authorities issued a halt of work order on the fence of the plot on the pretext of building it without licenses , then issued a final demolition order, then finally completely destroyed it.

 About Khashem ed-Daraj: 

It is situated to  the southeast of Yatta town and is 20km away from it. The village has a total population of 800 people and is inhabited by several families namely( al-Tabanah, al-Hathalin, al-Faqir, and Hamadin). A roads network is there to link the village with other neighboring towns and cities. In addition to that, the town has many facilities  namely (water and electricity networks, primary mixed-gender school, a clinic, a kindergarten, and three mosques).

Khashem ed-Daraj is surrounded by the natural reserve relative to Israel Nature Authority and the Dead (from the east), Um el-Khair and Arrab al-Najada (from the west), a military training camp for the occupation (from the north), and the villages of Khashem el-Karm and al-Dqiqa (from the south).

Land Research Center sees the occupation’s policies in destroying Palestinian properties a flagrant violation of international conventions and agreements:

Article 17 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948:

  1. Everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others.
  2. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property.
    • Article 32 of Hague convention 1907 part g: To destroy or seize the enemy’s property, unless such destruction or seizure be imperatively demanded by the necessities of war.
  3. Article 53 of Geneva fourth convention that forbids destroying properties : Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons, or to the State, or to other public authorities, or to social or co-operative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations.

4- The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights:

  1. The States Parties to the present Covenant, including those having responsibility for the administration of Non-Self-Governing and Trust Territories, shall promote the realization of the right of self-determination, and shall respect that right, in conformity with the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations.”
