Settlers of “Shilo” leveling lands in Sinjil / Ramallah

Description:

In the contest of the Israeli plan to take over as much as it is possible of Palestinian lands , at the beginning of June 2019 the Israeli occupation authorities ravaged 62 dunums located to the west of Shilo settlement and bypass 60.

The targeted location is north east Sinjil in an area known of “Ar-Rafeed” that is owned by Palestinian citizens with legal ownership deeds. noteworthy the targeted location is not used in agriculture currently , and located next to a plot already controlled by settlers in 2005 who planted it with grapes, the plot has a total area of 90 dunums .

Mu’taz Tawafsha , Sinjil municipality head told LRC reporter:

“At the beginning of this year, I was surprised of ravaging and leveling wide areas of lands north the village, we formed a committee in order to contact the owners of the targeted plots, according to the municipality records most of the plots belong to owners from ‘Elwan and Karakera , so we guided them to file objections to the Israeli courts . The ravaging works are only part of a project the occupation is implementing in the area in order to take over 90 dunums for settlers’ favor”.

 

Shilo was established in 1978 on lands confiscated from Jaloud , Qaryout, Turmu’ayya and Sinjil . Shilo is surrounded by four villages , it is bordered by Jaloud and Qaryout (north) , Turmus’ayya ( south) , “Mitzpe Rahel” settlement and bypass 458 (east) and number of outposts and “Ma’ale Levona” settlement (south).

“Shilo” settlement – east Ramallah is populated 4307 people in 2018 census , while it has a total area of 1400 dunums.

20 kilometer north of Ramallah, Sinjil is surrounded by Al Labn Ash Sharqia  (north), ‘Abween and Jaljilia (west), Qaryut and Turmus’ayya (east), and Al Mazr’a Ash sharqia (south).

Sinjil has a total population of 5742 people according to statistics conducted in 2017. It has a total area of 14028of which 888 are a built-up area of the village. 

The Israeli occupation devoured 551 dunums of the lands of the village for two colonies. The first one is Maale Levona which was built in 1983 and confiscated 298 dunums of the village, and  inhabited by 497 colonists. The second is Eli which was built in 1984 and devoured 253 dunums, and inhabited by 2058 colonists.

Moreover, bypass number ’60 took over 246 dunums of the village lands.

According to Oslo Accords, 14% of Sinjil is under Area A (PA has full civil and security control) while 30% is under Area B (PA is in charge of civil matters with Israel responsible for security). However,  most of the village lands (56%) is under Area C (Israel maintains full security and administrative control). Here are the area in dunums:

  • Area A (1980) dunums
  • Area B (4140) dunums
  • Area C (7908) dunums
