Settlers sabotage 500 vine trees – Halhul/ Hebron governorate

Violation: Sabotaging vine trees trees.

Date: May 22 -2018.

Location: Al-Marjama – Halhul /Hebron governorate.

Perpetrators: Fanatic settlers.

Victims: Farmers from Halhul.

Description:

It is reported that fanatic settlers sneaked into Al-Marjama area at night and sabotaged about 500 vine trees belong to number of farmers from the town.

The trees belong to the following farmers:

1 – Farmer Waleed Dhaidel: Settlers sabotaged 200 trees belong to him (aging 25 years), the targeted trees used to provide a sub-source of income for 20 members of Dhaidel’s children and grandchildren, Dhaidel estimated that his financial lost reached 50,000 NIS of grapes, vine leaves.

2– Farmer Maher Karaja: Settlers sabotaged 200 trees belong to him (aging 22 years), the targeted trees used to provide a sub-source of income for 20 members of Karaja’s children and grandchildren , Karaja estimated  that his financial lost reached 100,000 NIS of grapes, vine leaves.

1 – Farmer Yunis Abu Areesh: Settlers sabotaged 100 trees belong to him (aging 15 years), the targeted trees used to provide a sub-source of indcome for 15 members.

Noteworthy, the targeted lands are about 100 meters from bypass 60.

Farmers filed a complaint to the Israeli occupation Police through the Palestinian cooperation office, the police asked them to come to “Petar Elit” station for testimony, and told them that an investigation will be opened.

About Halhul[1]:

It is 7km north Hebron city and is around 36,849  dunums in area; 3,364 dunums of which are built up area where the rest is planted with grapes, peach and almond trees. The town is 1050 m above sea level and is considered the highest point in the West Bank. It has a total population of 27,031 people (Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics 2017)

 

The occupation confiscated (847.5) dunums for the following purposes:

1: “Karmei Zur” settlement devoured 116 dunums when it was established in 1984.

2: Bypasses 60 and 35 devoures 698 dunums.

3: Military camps devoured (33.5) dunums.

Oslo convention divided Halhul lands to 3 areas:

Area A: (4,165) dunums.

Area B: (21,899) dunums.

Area C: (10,785) dunums.
