The Israeli Occupation Authorities is on the Verge of Completing the Wall Section in Azzun Atma

Preface:

The Israeli dozers are heading towards the completion of the modified section of the segregation wall in Azzun. The modification of the route of the wall was confirmed in order T/06/08, ruled in 2008 by the Israeli Supreme Court. This meant that the village will be isolated from its Palestinian surroundings.

It was confirmed once more by order T/06/08 (borders modification); the implementation of the order had begun in November 2011 when Israeli dozers leveled huge areas around Oranit colony which is built over the village’s lands.

According to the Village Council, the leveling campaign caused the following damage:

  • Leveling over 130 dunums of agricultural lands, property of around 100 farmers, and the uprooting of more than 500 trees.

  • The farmers were forced to dismantle 7 green houses and around 7000 meters of irrigation networks.

  • When completed the wall section will isolate 400 dunums of the village lands.

  •  Al Shila cistern which is considered a major source of water for the villages of Azzun and Mas-ha by pumping 60 m3 per hour will also be isolated.

Abdul Kareem Ayyub, the secretary of Azzun Village Council and a human rights activist, said: ‘the newly constructed section of the wall will deprive the people of Azzun from their right to use over 70 % of their lands. The Israeli operations are organized crimes seeking more conflict and destruction not peace or stability.

Azzun Atma is inhabited by around 1500 people who largely depend on agriculture in their living. The village is surrounded by the Israeli colonies of Oranit, Shiar Tikva, and Elkana in addition to the segregation wall. It is only 1 km away from Kafr Qasem town, beyond the green line.
