“Eli” colonists ravage 86 olive trees in Qaryut village Nablus district

  • Location: Al-Btaishah west of Qaryut village and north of Eli colony.

  • Perpetrators: Israeli Eli colonists.

The farmer Abdallah ‘Azem from Qaryut village expressed his sorrow to see most of his trees, that he has been taking care of for twenty years, completely ravaged by sharp tools; an act that shows the colonists hatred and hostility. In November 9, 2012, along with olive harvest season, the colonists ravaged and cut 86 productive olive trees in Al-Btaishah west of Qaryut village using sharp tools noting that most of the trees exist since hundreds of years and are considered the source of income for 13 families in the village.

It is to be mentioned that Al-Btaishah witnessed many colonist attacks in Qaryut village under the protection of the occupation forces.

 

Qaryut village[1]: a Palestinian village located 24.5km south of Nablus, it has a population of 2,321 (2007 census), it expands over 22,473 dunums 75% of which are in area classified ‘C’ according to Oslo accords. The village is bounded on the north Qasra and Talfit villages, on the East Duma and Jalud villages, on the west Allaban Alsharqi and Alsawiya villages and on the south Turmusaya, Sinjel and Mughayer villages. The following colonies are established on the village lands: Mitsbeh Rahel, Shilo and Eli, with a population of 3,868 colonists. 2,227 dunums of Qaryut lands were confiscated for colonial purposes, apart from 435 dunums for the bypass roads (4,358m).
