Blocking Kafr ad Dik Entrance

Blocking Kafr ad Dik Entrance
Violation: blocking Kafr ad Dik entrance.
Date: January 25, 2012.
Victoms: residents of Kafr ad Dik.
Perpetrators: the Israeli Occupation Army.

Details:
In parallel with the beginning of the so-called exploratory negotiations that were held in Jordan; the Israeli Occupation Army blocked the entrance of Kafr ad Dik town which connects it with a number of other villages western Salfit. The same entrance was blocked several times before; the latest in 2010 knowing that it had been closed from 2000 till the beginning of 2010.

Jamal ad Dik, Governor of Kafr ad Dik, said: ‘the closure of Kafr ad Dik entrance for no reason is a violation of the right to freedom of movement and is a breach of the Geneva Fourth Covention. They blocked the entrance of Kafr ad Dik town which has been used since the Ottoman regime as caravans going from Jaffa to Jordan passed through it’.

On the other hand, a large scale bulldozing campaign is taking place around Kafr ad Dik and nearby the Israeli colonies of Eli Zahav and Bedoel. The target area is larger than the area of the colonies themselves. The Israelis went further by stealing antiques from the area and move it into the nearby Eli Zahav.

Kafr ad Dik – an overview:
Kafr ad Dik is located 35 km to the south west of Nablus, 35 km to the north west of Ramalla, and 13 km to the west of Salfit. Its total area is 16,000 dunums; however, it has been suffocated by bypasses and 3 Israeli colonies that lay over its lands. This has further limited its expansion knowing that it had already had a 791-dunum organizational plan; it also isolated the village from its surroundings. Kafr ad Dik is inhabited by 5500 people.

The following colonies reside over Kafr ad Dik:
  • Bedoel: it was established in 1984; its built-up area has reached 537 dunums in 2010, out of these, 418 were confiscated from Beit Furik. The colony is inhabited by 1088 Israelis.
  • Bedoel Industrial zone: it was established in 1991; its built-up area has reached 264 dunums in 2010, all of it is Kafr ad Dik lands.
  • Eli Zahav: it was established in 1982; its built-up area has reached 290 built over lands confiscated from Kafr ad Dik. The colony is inhabited by 424 Israeli colonists.
  • Bruchen: it was established in 1999; its built-up area has reached 265.5 dunums in 2010, out of these, 20 were confiscated from Kafr ad Dik. The colony is inhabited by 992 Israelis.
