The Israeli Municipality levels a farm in Ath-Thuri
The Israeli Municipality in the Occupied City of Jerusalem demolished a shed and a barn, uprooted trees, killed birds, and left cattle shelter-less. On December 20, 2011, tens of Israeli soldiers accompanied by a dozer broke into ‘Al Shama’a’ area in Ath-Thuri. The dozers started leveling a 1000-m2-farm with all its structures and trees. The farm held 5 sheep, a horse, tens of chicken and other birds, 3 olive trees, and three citrus trees. The soldiers left behind them more than 230,000 ILS in loses.

The Israeli justified the campaign by claiming that it is necessary for ‘beautifying the city’. The recent campaign and a previous one which targeted the Ibrahimi College playground in As Suwwana were ordered by the ‘Israeli Environmental Protection Agency’ which seems to be responsible for the removal of trees standing for centuries.
