Details:
On November 2, 2011, Israeli troops accompanied by officers of the Israeli Municipality in the Occupied City leveled two sheds and a shack as well as agricultural field in At Tur neighborhood in the Occupied City. The Israeli dozers demolished the sheds without giving the owner time to clear the contents. The troops confiscated the ruins in order not to be recycled.

The Israelis prevented people and journalists from getting near the site while leveling 1250 m2 of lands planted with 22 trees. The field was reclaimed and the sheds were placed into it 8 years ago.The owner stated that before the demolitions took place, he informed them that he assigned a lawyer to defend his case but received nothing more than deaf ears. Also, he said that the officers did not show him any warrants or orders meaning that the demolitions were illegal even for the Israeli unjust and discriminatory laws.

This is not the first time that Mr. Zablah and his family suffer from an aggression; 8 months earlier, Mr. Zablah was forced to demolish his own house which was built 7 years ago in addition to imposing a huge fine on him. When gone, it was hard to recognize the field as the land was turned upside down.

The Land Research Center – LRC views the Israeli Occupation Authorities demolitions of houses and property as a breach and an act of defiance of all the international agreements and conventions including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Geneva Fourth Convention article 53 stating ‘Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons, or to the State, or to other public authorities, or to social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations.’

As well as article 47 stating: ‘Protected persons who are in occupied territory shall not be deprived, in any case or in any manner whatsoever, of the benefits of the present Convention by any change introduced, as the result of the occupation of a territory, into the institutions or government of the said territory, nor by any agreement concluded between the authorities of the occupied territories and the Occupying Power, nor by any annexation by the latter of the whole or part of the occupied territory.’
