The Expansion of Eilie Settlement in Nablus

The Expansion of Eilie Settlement in Nablus

The colony of Eillie was established in 1984 on the expense of lands owned by Palestinians from the village of Qariot, located 27 kilometers south of the city of Nablus. The colony contains more than 150 housing units in addition to 100 caravans.

Location of Qaryut

In 1991, 10 mobile caravans were placed by settlers on a 1000-dunum piece of land in a location called Al Sana'. These caravans were moved only to be replaced by stationary housing units as construction of the basic infrastructure is continuing unabated. So far, construction commenced on 14 stationary housing units that can house 70 settlers. In the meantime, violation against the village of Qaryut are continuing as the settlement of Shilo is expanding by adding 5 new housing units to it. Overall, the village of Qariot has been suffering such action ever since the establishment of the settlement of Shilo in 1978 as indicated by the following table

Such actions taking place at this time makes the villagers, and the Palestinian community in general, question the true intentions of the Barak government who promises peace and prosperity yet on the ground practices policies that would eventually lead to war and misfortunes.
